The City of Muntinlupa will donate P3 million to build bathrooms and install septic tanks in schools used as evacuation centers by residents displaced by the Mayon Volcano eruption in the province of Albay.

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi also said the city is turning over 900 sacks of rice to the evacuees—400 sacks handed out in Daraga and other Albay towns last Jan. 27 and 500 more on Feb. 16.

The rest of the funds will be used to purchase hygiene kits, sleeping mats, and grocery packages, Fresnedi said, and evacuees who would work on the construction of the facilities, which would serve at least 7,900 persons, will be compensated.

Meanwhile, the Caloocan City Council also approved P2 million in financial assistance for Tabaco City and Malilipot town in Albay as aid to victims of Mayon’s eruption.

According to District 1 Councilor Aurora Henson, two resolutions have been issued by the Sangguniang Panlungsod to allow the city government to release P1 million funds each in assistance to the two areas heavily damaged by the volcanic eruptions.

Secretary to the mayor Lilubeth Luakian said Caloocan will also provide other needs that can be given to constituents of the affected areas, such as sleeping mats, building materials, kitchen and toilet facilities and other relief goods.

In past disasters, Mayor Oscar Malapitan personally handed the city government’s assistance to Tacloban, Marawi and Ormoc.

Permanent comfort rooms will be constructed in Gabawan Elementary School, Bascaran National HS, Bascaran Elementary, and Anislag National High, while new septic tanks will be installed in Anislag Elementary and Villahermosa Elementary.

Members of Muntinlupa City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Social Service Department Office, and Engineering Office visited evacuation areas in the affected municipalities and conducted a Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis.

According to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Bulletin on Monday morning, Mayon Volcano remains to be in Alert Level 4.

Phivolcs strongly advised the public to be vigilant and desist from entering the eight-kilometer danger zone.
