QUEZON City Mayor Herbert Bautista on Monday led the formal opening of three new buildings at the City Hall complex dedicated to law enforcement and public safety.

Following yesterday’s flag-raising ceremony, Bautista and Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte spearheaded the ribbon-cutting to signify the opening of the National Government Agencies building, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office building, and Department of Public Order and Safety Building, all located along the Kalayaan Avenue side of the City Hall compound.

“We hope to better serve the public by providing a facility that will both provide comfort and convenience to the public and to our colleagues in government who provide the frontline service,” the mayor said.

The four-story NGA Building houses the field office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, clearance issuance sections of the National Bureau of Investigation and the Quezon City Police District, and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Chief Insp. Rodel Maritana, head of the QCPD’s clearance section, said their area is located at the second floor of the NGA Building and can accommodate 200 applicants at a time.

“We have a new system in place, unlike before. An applicant does not have to go back. The clearance can be released in (just) 15 minutes,” he added. “We also have new computers that were purchased by Mayor Herbert.”

The NBI clearance section on the ground floor will have a 170-seat waiting area with 20 windows attending to applicants.

The BFP office on the third floor will attend to applications for fire safety inspection clearances.

The Disaster Risk Reduction management building houses the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Radio Communications Service, a fire station, and the headquarters of the Quezon City Ready Reserve Brigade of the Philippine Army.

It also houses the Emergency Operations Center, one of the most modern command and control centers in the country, designed to monitor 243 high-definition surveillance cameras placed in strategic areas within the city.

The building is also rated to withstand an earthquake of up to magnitude 8, and can switch to renewable energy in case of a power failure.

Under Bautista’s administration, the city government has invested P300 million in the vital sector since 2010.
