Valenzuela City’s barangay officials and members of the peace and order councils in 33 barangays recently attended the Department of Justice’s Basic Alternative Dispute Resolution Skills Training.

According to lawyer Rodan Parrocha, officer in charge of DOJ’s Office for ADR, the goal of the training is to promote settling of conflicts between and among parties in a peaceful manner before bringing the issues to court.

Parrocha said ADR skills training include mediation, conciliation and arbitration aimed at lessening the pile of complaints in different justice courts and for barangay officials to truly become advocates of peace and reconciliation.

The DOJ officer believes that the training will improve the skills of barangay officials and members of the peace and order council or lupong tagapamayapa in handling disputes.

OADR is an attached agency of DOJ created through Republic Act 9285, also known as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act of 2004. Its primary goal is to promote the use of ADR in public and private sectors.
