1,493 Makati students get cash rewards today

The Makati City government will give cash incentives to 1,493 honor graduates in the city’s public elementary, junior and senior high schools for school year 2016-2017 in line with the program aim to motivate students achieve their goals.

Mayor Abigail Binay will lead the 2017 Annual Recognition and Awarding Ceremonies (Gawad Parangal) to be held at the University of Makati (UMak) Grand Theater on June15.  

For elementary honor graduates, the awarding ceremony is scheduled in the morning, from 9 a.m. to noon. Junior and senior high school honor graduates will take their turn in the afternoon, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Binay said the Gawad Parangal, one of the city’s long-standing traditions, aims to encourage students to continue excelling in their studies.

“This is our way of recognizing students who have put in extraordinary effort to excel in their studies. Their achievements serve as a shining tribute to our significant investments in their proper education,” she said.

In addition to cash incentives, the city is also set to raffle off 50 brand new laptops among the awardees to further help them in sustaining academic excellence. 

Out of the 1,493 awardees this year, 656 come from Grade 6, 827 from Grade 10, and 10 awardees from Grade 12. Those who finished “with the highest honors” will receive P10,000 each. Those recognized “with high honors” will receive P8,000 each, while those who graduated “with honors” will receive P6,000 each.

Christian Andre Digas of the Higher School ng UMak (HSU) has been named as the lone graduate conferred with the highest honors among honor graduates from Makati public schools in the past school year.

At the elementary level, Rizal has the most number of honor graduates: 83 with honors and one with high honor. It is followed by Fort Bonifacio having 79 graduates with honors and two with high honors, and East Rembo having 47 with honors and four with high honors. 

West Rembo has 26 with honors; Guadalupe Viejo, 11 with honors and one with high honors; Makati Elem., 13 with honors and two with high honors; Pembo, 37 with honors; Comembo, 42 with honors and three with high honors; Tibagan Integrated, nine with honors and one with high honors. 

Hen. Pio del Pilar Main, 18 with honors and one with high honors; Hen. Pio del Pilar, 25 with honors; Bangkal Main, 15 with honors and one with honors; Bangkal I, nine with honors; and Bangkal II, five with honors. 

Benitez Main, seven with honors; Nicanor Garcia, eight with honors; Jose Magsaysay, eight with honors; Maximo Estrella, 10 with honors; Cembo, 35 with honors and three with high honors; South Cembo, 16 with honors and one with high honors; Pitogo, 15 with honors and two with high honors; Nemesio Yabut, 11 with honors.

San Jose, 18 with honors and one with high honors; Palanan, 25 with honors and three with high honors; Lapaz, 21 with honors and two with high honors; San Antonio Village, 17 with honors; and Benitez III, 14 with honors and three with high honors. 

For junior high school, Makati Science High School garnered the most number of Grade 10 completers with academic awards, having 135 with honors and six with high honors. It is followed by Benigno Aquino High having 121 with honors and two with high honors. Pitogo is on the third spot having 116 with honors. 

Moreover, Makati High has 84 with honors and two with high honors; San Isidro, 41 with honors; San Antonio; 61 with honors; Gen. Pio del Pilar, 58 with honors and two with high honors; Fort Bonifacio High School, 112 with honors; Bangkal, 35 with honors and one with high honors; and Tibagan High School, 51 with honors.

For senior high school, the Higher School ng UMak (HSU), under the auspices of the city-run University of Makati, has 10 honor graduates including eight with honors, one with high honors, and one who finished with the highest honors. 

Under Department of Education Order No. 36, series of 2016, which sets the guidelines on awards and recognitions for the K-to-12 program, academic excellence awards are granted to Grades 1 to 12 learners with a general average of 90 percent and a passing final grade in all learning areas. 

Learners who obtained a general average of 98 to 100 percent will finish with highest honors, 95 to 97 percent with high honors, and 90 to 94 percent with honors.
