Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada will bestow special awards to exceptional Filipino artists who have excelled in the fields of architecture, painting, and other art forms and culture.

Estrada, himself a multi-awarded actor, will lead the conferment of the annual “Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan Awards” during the weeklong celebrations of the 446th Araw ng Maynila starting June 24.

“It will be a great honor once again to recognize outstanding individuals who have distinguished themselves in different fields of visual arts and have contributed to the development of Filipino traditional arts and culture,” Estrada said.

The Patnubay ng Sining at Kalinangan Awards are handed out by the city government of Manila as part of the annual celebrations of the capital city’s foundation day.

Among the prominent personalities who were given such honor by Estrada were actress Nora Aunor and actor-director Eddie Garcia.

The awards are in recognition of the Filipino artists “who have dedicated their talents and skills to promote and put into a different level their respective fields of artistic endeavor,” said Sofia Arboladura, chief of the Manila Tourism and Cultural Affairs Bureau.

Arboladura said the awards have nine categories: Architecture, Sculpture, Dance, Theater, Painting, Music, New Art Form, Literature, and Cinema.

The 2017 Araw ng Maynila Executive Committee and MTCAB are now accepting nominations until June 15.

“To qualify, the nominees must be living Filipino artists who have distinguished themselves through research and preservation of culture and the development of their arts,” Arboladura explained.

Nominations can be submitted to the MTCAB office at the Manila City Hall or emailed to [email protected]. The public can also call the office at 310-52-24 for more details, she added.

“A medal and cash award would also be given to the winners,” the MTCAB chief said.
