Quezon City has declared the last Sunday of May as Bicycle Day.

As provided under City Ordinance 2551-2016, Quezon City will celebrate a yearly bike day to promote the use of bicycles as an alternative mode of transport, and encourage road sharing between motorists and non-motorists.

The ordinance, authored by Councilor Allan Benedict Reyes, underscored the importance of encouraging city residents to use bicycles not only for personal benefit but also to help improve the city’s air and environmental quality.

The QC government under Mayor Herbert M. Bautista supports moves to protect the environment with measures and initiatives such as the creation of bike lanes to encourage residents to ride bicycles instead of motorized vehicles that cause air pollution.
