Communicators’ network unveiled in Davao

DAVAO CITY”•The nationwide launching of the Provincial Communicators Network was recently conducted here with the initiative of the Philippine Information Agency and allied agencies under the Presidential Communications Operations Office.

This came as the concluding highlight of the three-day 1st National Information Convention attended by more than 2,000 information officers of local government units, national government agencies, civil society organizations and private media practitioners, among others at the SMX Convention Center, Lanang Premier in this city.

“This will strengthen our resolve to fight fake news and take up the responsibility of providing the public with timely, accurate and relevant development information that contributes to proactive citizenship, national progress and better quality of life for all Filipinos,” said Harold Clavite, PIA director-general.

The event carried the theme “Spurring Development and Empowering Communities through Information” which was aimed at gathering government communicators, members of the national and regional media, communications and technology industries leaders and members of the academe to discuss ways to empower the communities through development communication.

Topics discussed offered understanding government programs and policies through the “Build, Build, Build Project of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, E-Power Mo (Energy Efficiency and Conservation) of the Department of Energy, Social Security System programs and Public Diplomacy by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The convention also opened up understanding on fostering safe and healthy media environment, Freedom of Information, Federalism and Barangay-Based Information Network; Promoting Responsible Digital Citizenship through learnings on countering fake news and empowering communities through media and information literacy.

A session on Developing a Dynamic Development Communication Strategy also provided the participants lessons on grass roots communication, community broadcasting and mobilization, public relations, risk communication, civic engagement and nation building, digital media for social mobilization, disaster resiliency and orientation on the Government Information Centers and Information Volunteers Network, among others.
