SM opens second mall in CdO today

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—SM Prime Holdings opens its newest mall in the country today, making its 61st mall, this city’s second SM Mall, and the sixth in Mindanao.

SM CDO Downtown Premier has five levels with 17.7 hectares of floor area, and is envisioned as this city’s premier shopping destination and an emerging landmark in downtown Cagayan de Oro City, the firm said in a press release.

SM CDO Downtown Premier “brings a vibrant and upbeat retail experience for this urban market” with exterior finishes that are “subtle and upscale.”

The mall, which is already 87 percent leased, will raise the malling experience in Cagayan de Oro as it will offer top amenities that Kagay-anons can enjoy.

These include SM mainstays the Cyberzone, SM Food Hall, SM Bowling Center, a five-level carpark building, four digital theaters, two Director’s Club cinemas, one Large Format cinema, an 800-seater Sky Hall like in SM Aura Premier in Taguig City, and an al fresco dining and entertainment Sky Garden, like that in SM North Edsa in Quezon City.

“To top it all, SM CDO Downtown Premier complex will also have an eight-level office building that will cater to Business Process Outsourcing companies,” the firm added.

“Set to be Cagayan de Oro’s premier shopping address, SM CDO Downtown Premier is located at the bustling central business district of the city and easily accessible to the financial, commercial, residential and learning institutions.”

SM Prime “continues to give primary importance to sustainability and in integrating disaster resilience into its properties.” As such, SM CDO Downtown Premier mall will have a water catchment beneath it that will be able to hold 13,650 cubic meters of rainwater, to help lessen the flooding in the area, the mall operator added.

The construction of the mall was one of the city’s biggest investments in 2015. Its opening “will also employs thousands and will contribute greatly to the economy of Northern Mindanao,” the firm said.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno said the opening of another SM mall “is a boost in trust and confidence not only for the city government but also for the region, as the city is the regional business hub.”

“This will greatly open up opportunities for the city, it will greatly contribute to the city and the region as well,” Moreno said.
