Cops nab robbery suspect, rookie shoots wrong man

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Police arrested the alleged suspect in the Jan 3 robbery break-in at a computer shop during a hot pursuit along Sitio Matuang Dalan, Barangay San Matias, Sta. Rita, Pampanga.

While hot on trail of the suspect, a rookie cop shot dead a man who was mistakenly identified as the suspect in the robbery break-in.

The victim was identified as Federico Pineda Jr., of Zone 6, Bgy. San Matias. He succumbed to lone gunshot in his back while enroute to nearby hospital.

Pineda was on his way to visit his relatives after hosting a birthday party for his daughter. The victim fell at the doorstep of his cousin’s  house where he cried for help. He expired moments later.  

Patrolman Efraim Ramirez surrendered to his superior and was disarmed moments later. He was placed under investigation while under detention.

Meanwhile, policemen arrested the real suspect in the computer shop robbery break-in. He was identified as Joven Basera.

Police recovered P6,000.00 taken by the suspect from the Peso Net shop owned by spouse Rafael Ang Garcia and Carolina, who both suffered deep cuts after being hit by an empty bottle to the head.

The Garcia couple are recuperating at a hospital in nearby Porac town, stated in the police report.    

Police Colonel Arnold Thomas Ibay, director of the Pampanga Provincial Police Office (PPO), said administrative and criminal charges are being readied againt Ramirez.

“A summary dismissal proceedings have been readied for the administrative case of Ramirez while the criminal aspect will be filed in court,” said Ibay.
