City of San Fernando—Nearly 1,400 persons were arrested by police authorities as the campaign against non-wearing of face mask intensified due to the spike in the number of coronavirus contracted cases across Pampanga, a top police official said.
"Violation of Provincial Ordinance 756 or the mandatory wearing of face mask have (sic) been filed against violators," said Col. Jean Fajardo, director of the Pampanga Police Provincial Office on the sideline of the launching of "Disiplina Muna."
"Disiplina Muna" is a project of the Department of Interior and Local Government aimed at instilling discipline especially during the pandemic, Fajardo added.
"Due to lack of discipline, the number of those infected by the coronavirus disease is on the rise,” Fajardo said.
She said 2,279 others were arrested in separate towns for other violations ranging from curfew, liquor ban, and disobedience, bringing to 8,320 persons sent to an hour community service instead of sending them to jail.
After community service, Fajardo said violators underwent briefing on the danger of coronavirus before they were freed and sent home.
A total 178 coronavirus cases have been recorded by the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, 111 of whom have recovered and 17 deaths as of July 12.
PESU also reported that no fresh cases were monitored on Sunday.
The City of San Fernando has the most number of afflicted persons with 30 confirmed cases, followed by Angeles City with 29 cases and Apalit town 25.
Present during the launching of "Disiplina Muna" were representatives of different local government officials, PPO Advisory Council and DILG executive Marites Quillope.
