Insular Foundation extends assistance to schools for Dumagat tribe

Insular Foundation has extended a helping hand to five public elementary schools whose students are mostly coming from the indigenous tribe of Dumagat.

The beneficiary schools — Cinabuan Elementary School, Nayon Elementary School, Magata-Manggahan Elementary School, Mamuyao Elementary School, and Sto. Nino Integrated School — are located in the highly remote areas of Tanay, Rizal.

Insular Foundation Program Manager Tere Melad (fifth from left) presents the foundation’s assistance to Rizaldy Cristo, Public School District Supervisor of Tanay (second from right), and representatives from beneficiary schools (from left) Shiela Marie Cauad of Sto. Nino Integrated School; Ramil Desuyo, Principal, Cuyambay Elementary School; Leoncio Soriano III, Principal, Magata-Manggahan Elementary School; Romero Ramiro, Principal, Nayon-Kinabuan Elementary School; and Analiza Patena, Principal of Mamuyao Elementary School. Joining them is Gino Lascano of solar company Solariva (rightmost).

The corporate social responsibility arm of Insular Life (InLife) has turned over solar power lights and batteries, classroom materials, and school supplies to these Last Mile Schools of the Department of Education (DepEd) Tanay, Rizal.

Insular Foundation Executive Director Ana Maria Soriano explained that the assistance to the elementary schools came from the proceeds of InLife Race for the Extra Mile conducted last year.

“The race promoted physical fitness through walking, running or cycling and donation to charity among InLife employees, financial advisors, agency leaders and policyholders, InLife Health Care employees, and Insular Foundation partners.”

“For the race participants’ total distance coverage of 60,704 kilometers, the Foundation provided fund matching of ₱900,000 in total cash donation for two beneficiaries, one of which is DepEd Tanay, Rizal’s Last Mile Schools,” Soriano said.

“Beyond the quantitative results of the InLife Race for the Extra Mile, this fitness for charity challenge was able to support the Foundation’s focus on education for the less privileged learners,” she added.

DepEd Rizal Province’s School Governance and Operations Division Chief Ferdinand Pascual expressed appreciation to InLife for being their reliable partner and consistent supporter.

Rizaldy Cristo, Public School District Supervisor of Tanay said Insular Foundation’s assistance will go a long way in helping their students.

“Sincerest thanks and gratitude to Insular Foundation. Hindi ninyo kami binitawan at inabot ninyo kami kahit na kami ay nasa malayo. Your assistance in the form of solar power lights and school materials are very helpful to our students, especially to those schools located in the far-flung area and upland schools,” Cristo said.

Analiza Patena, Principal of Mamuyao Elementary School, for her part, said Insular Foundation is God’s instrument to fulfill their needs.

“The five upland schools of Tanay are lucky to be chosen as your beneficiaries, we feel blessed and rest assured that your donations will be handled with care,” she said.
