Balanga City—The Iskolar ng Bataan program has new 5,358 college beneficiaries this academic year.

Vice Governor Cris Garcia recently welcomed the new scholars and was joined by Board Member Rey Ibe, Sangguniang Panlalawigan chairman of the Committee on Education.

The two officials expressed appreciation to the parents who accompanied the scholars in the orientation activity held at Peoples’ Center, capitol compound.

“Take the opportunity to earn education with the scholarship program of the provincial government,” Iskolar ng Bataan coordinator Ramon Canas quoted the vice governor as telling the new scholars.

Each college scholar from the province receives P5,000 per semester. However, each scholar from Balanga City gets P7,000 per semester, and from Morong town P6,000 per semester, said Canas.

Before becoming vice governor, Garcia was the original coordinator of the Iskolar ng Bataan. She now serves as adviser of the scholarship program.

The late Governor Tet Garcia and then 2nd district congressman currently Gov. Garcia hatched in 2005 the Iskolar ng Bataan program benefitting ever since thousands of college students from the province.
