Giving her speech during a heavy downpour, Senator Marcos called on Bulakenyos: “Amid an unpredictable time, each one of us has a place and duty to our country’s history. We may not immediately achieve our goals, but if we have unity we will succeed in great endeavors for our motherland.”

Marcos praised the province of Bulacan as the cradle of history.

“It is in this church where our First Constitution was drafted and the First Republic in Asia was proclaimed, thus we are enjoying our present freedom under a democratic government of the people, by the people and for the entire Filipino people,” the senator added.

The delegates at the Malolos Congress of 1898 ratified the declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898, which paved the way for the birth of the First Philippine Republic in the same year. Ironically, the senator’s father, the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos, abolished the Philippine Congress when he declared martial law on Sept. 21, 1972.
