Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya—Board Member Edgardo Balgos said he will continue being a fiscalizer in the provincial board despite failing to land any committee chairmanships.

Balgos, along with fellow board members Cirilo Galindez and Roland Carub, were left out of the key roles during the inaugural session of the 10th Sangguniang Panlalawigan presided by Vice Governor Jose Tomas Sr.

The trio are all members of the opposition National Unity Party, as is Tomas, in contrast to Governor Carlos Padilla and Nacionalista Party, which holds six of the 10 seats on the provincial board.

“I will continue my role in the provincial board as a ‘fiscalizer’, along with our fellow colleagues so that we can safeguard the utmost interest and welfare of Novo Vizcayanos,” he said.

In the 9th SP, Balgos was co-chairman of the committee on municipal affairs and the committee on Good Governance and Ethics and Spiritual Affairs.

Balgos, who represents the province’s first district, also expressed his sympathy to Tomas, who was disgusted with the turnout of the committee chairmanship elections.

A lawyer by profession, Balgos said experience and expertise should have been the basis in choosing board members to chair committees. Ben Moses Ebreo

Balgos also praised Tomas for his good performance during the inaugural session of the provincial board despite being a neophyte vice governor.

Tomas was the Chief Executive Officer of the Tam-an Multi-Purpose Cooperative and made history as the first indigenous Ifugao to become vice governor of Nueva Vizcaya.

“I was nervous before our session but seeing the vice governor’s performance, I was relieved because it was a good one considering that it was his first time. Nonetheless, he will soon improve himself as a presiding officer,” Balgos said.
