The Banda Matanda Brass Band marches proudly through a crowd at the St. Francis of Assisi parish in General Trias City, Cavite, as one of 19 bands performing in the ‘Grand Pasayo’ as a prelude to the city’s fiesta. Most of the marching band’s current members are fourth- and fifth-generation descendants of the original Banda San Francisco de Malabon Grande—General Trias’ previous name as a town—which first played the Philippine National Anthem at the Aguinaldo mansion in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898.
