Vizcaya villagers get wells, roadwork

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—Villagers in the town of Diadi recently received deep well and road concreting projects from the SN Aboitiz Power-Magat Inc. based here.

Diadi Mayor Norma Miguel said the projects will benefit 259 households or more than a thousand villagers.

The deep wells were given to barangays Butao and Escoting to reduce the villagers’ dependence  on private water sources and stem their vulnerability to water-borne diseases due to lack of safe public water supply.

The wells, Miguel said, were funded with P200,00 each for recipient barangays through SNAP-Magat’s corporate social responsibility program and the Energy Regulation 1-94 fund managed by the Department of Energy.

The DOE requires the utilization of a portion of electricity sales of all power generators for community projects of host local governments.

“We are very thankful for these projects because they leave a mark of economic progress for our villagers,” Miguel said.

The mayor said the barangay leaders also committed to maintain the deep wells through the creation of water users’ association.

Barangay Escoting also received a 140-meter road-concreting project funded by the power firm, which will benefit 30 households or 150 villagers.

SNAP-Magat is a joint venture of SN Power of Norway and Aboitiz Power. It owns and operates the Magat Hydroelectric Power Plant on the border of Ifugao and Isabela with a capacity of up to 380 megawatts.
