CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga—A global construction company and a tourism developer broke ground Wednesday on a P2.3-billion tourism estate inside the former American air force base here.

Called The Clark Hill, the estate will be built on 2.3 hectares and is a combination high-end residential complex and resort.

A statement released by the Clark Development Corp. said the tourism estate will be finished in 2020. The project is joint venture between POSCO Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd based in South Korea and local construction firm JB Cresta Corp., which created the Sharp Clark Hills Corp. to undertake the project.

Clark Hill includes state-of-the-art and premium residential houses, five high-rise condominium buildings with a total of 508 units, resort and support amenities like clubhouse, swimming pools, gym, and spa, and other related facilities.

The project will employ about 500 local construction workers and 120 regular workers during its initial operation, the CDC said.

POSCO Engineering has built many projects in South Korea, including the Songdo International Business District there, and the North An Khanh New City of Vietnam. JB Cresto is a tourist and leisure developer based in the Freeport since 2007.

CDC President Noel Manankil hailed Clark Hill as an estate “that will surely attract more foreign and local tourist alike” inside the former US base.

“The upcoming presence of the tourism estate will be an additional to the growing international brand that are going to Clark as their new home for doing or expanding their business,” he said.

According to Manankil, the CDC is committed to promote and maintain Clark as “a livable, vibrant and dynamic place for business and family oriented tourism destination in the country.”

Attending the groundbreaking ceremonies were Yong II Lee, POSCO Executive Vice President; Seuhg Sik Shin, representative of JB Clark Hill Corp.; Jung Hyub Lee, project manager of SCHC; and Evangeline Tajeda, CDC vice president for business development.
