SUBIC, Zambales—The local government of Barangay Balaybay has issued a resolution of support to the pending application of Redondo Peninsula Energy, Inc. for its long-delayed power project in Zambales.

During a regular session of the Barangay Balaybay Council a week ago, barangay chairman Arturo P. Manzano and the seven Sangguniang Barangay members signed Resolution No. 09 expressing support to RP Energy “in seeking approval of their Power Supply Agreement from the Energy Regulatory Commission.”

RP Energy’s PSA, which was submitted in April 2016, is a crucial document needed before the company proceeds with the construction of its 2×300 megawatt coal-fired power plant in Subic, Zambales.

According to the resolution, RP Energy will construct a 23-kilometer transmission facility that includes nine towers to be built in Barangay Balaybay.

“Even though the power plant has not been constructed yet, RP Energy is already helping the barangay in its various programs and projects,” according to the resolution. “The construction of the project will immensely help the barangay and its residents.”

In line with this, “the council has decided to appeal to ERC to expedite the release of the PSA of RP Energy.”

The motion to support the project was unanimously approved by the council, whose members also include SB members Leo D. Espiritu, Antonio A. Asuncion, Elpidio T. Saldivar, Rowell M. Esteban, Lorenzo M. Francia, Jr., Nimfa C. Tolosa; and Elmer M. Madriaga.

Other stakeholders of RP Energy’s project, like the Cawag Tribal Association and the Local Government of Barangay Cawag have also expressed their support on the project and pushed for the PSA approval.
