GenTrias supports urban farmers

GENERAL TRIAS CITY—Mayor Antonio “Ony” Ferrer and his brother, Cavite 6th District Rep. Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV led the distribution of seed money to 117 local farmers during a weekend program at Ferrer Farm in Barangay Pinagtipunan here.

The Ferrers handed over P1,282,500 in seed money and capital investment for the farmers, who must pay it back at the end of harvest season to allow them to reborrow from the fund.

The local government lends seed money to urban farmers without interest. The LGU also distributed organic fertilizers, 500 lime seedlings, and hundreds of mangosteen and lanzones seedlings, and raffled off 30 backpack sprayers to the farmers.

City Agriculturist Nerissa Marquez, APCO-Cavite Eda Dimapilis, and Department of Agriculture Regional Executive Director engineer Arnel de Mesa, joined the activity with Vice Mayor Morit Sison and Councilors Jonas Labuguen, Kyle Salazar, Gary Grepo, Pafoo Lozares and Florencio Ayos.
