TABUK CITY, Kalinga—At least 35 indigent residents in the province were recently granted P700,000 worth of livelihood assistance under the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The recipients, who are members of the Istay-Makun-Na Sustainable Livelihood Program Association (SLPA), went through seven days of skills training on bread and pastry production, in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

The DSWD also provided their training and assessment fees and starter kits, like baking equipment, utensils, and ingredients.

Of Istay-Makun-Na SLPA’s 35 members, 27 are Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries, while eight are certified indigents who earn a living from farming and manual labor.

SLP is a community-based capacity building program that increases the economic opportunities of the families through the different modalities like the Microenterprise Development-Skills Training (MD-ST).
