Albay Maharlika traffic getting worse

LEGAZPI CITY—The vaunted road widening of the Department of Public Works and Highways here has instead become a headache to motorists passing the Albay Maharlika route, and is now hampering delivery of goods to Manila from Visayas and  Mindanao via the roll-on roll-off transport pier in Matnog, Sorsogon.

Former Legazpi vice mayor Luis Adornado complained Wednesday that going to nearby Ligao City, which normally takes motorists 40 minutes from Legazpi, has become an “exorbitant discomfort” of three hours via the relatively short three-kilometer Banag-Busay route in Daraga town as a result of the ongoing DPWH road widening.

Albay 3rd District Rep. Fernando Gonzalez said adding to the massive road widening woes are the heavy cargo trucks stranded for days along the province’s second and third district routes bound for the Visayas and Mindanao.

For unknown reasons, these trucks do not immediately get accommodations on the RORO vessels in Matnog.
