Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc., the social arm of Shell companies in the Philippines, has just launched the Pasacao Typhoon “Nina” Livelihood Support Program in partnership with the local government of Pasacao in Camarines Sur.

Pasacao is one of the municipalities severely hit by “Nina” last December, with 5,611 households reported affected. The local government pooled its resources to provide immediate relief to those affected.

Realizing the impact of the typhoon, Pilipinas Shell designed the program to contribute to the restoration and improvement of living standards and well-being of affected families in the municipality.

The program will enable families affected by “Nina” to augment their livelihood through the conduct of Integrated Farming Bio-Systems sessions, goat dispersal for farmers, and boat rehabilitation subsidy for fishermen.

Pasacao Mayor Niño Tayco expressed his gratitude to PSFI for giving the beneficiaries an opportunity to start all over again.

Vice President Leni Robredo was also present in the program launching and MoA signing. Sharing how happy she is to work with the Pasacao LGU and PSFI, Robredo said: “Helping one another matters because we have a common goal for our countrymen.”

PSFI executive director Edgardo Veron Cruz, in his message to the beneficiaries, said: “Shell is helping you to help yourselves. Make use of what’s given to you and develop it further.”

Of the total affected in Pasacao, 1,526 households were recorded as totally damaged and 4,085 households were partially damaged.

Bicol Region, which was hit hardest by the typhoon, also suffered in terms of agriculture, with about 87,800 hectares of rice areas and 6,000 hectares of corn areas destroyed.
