Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna thanked President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos for leading government efforts to revive the historic and iconic Pasig River.
“Thank you so much, President Bongbong Marcos, for your tireless service and love of our country,” Lacuna said in a statement Friday.
Lacuna joined the First Couple and other government officials on Thursday evening, February 27, at the inauguration ceremony for the Phase 3 of the Pasig River rehabilitation project titled “Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli” (PBBM).
The Manila mayor noted that the Pasig River Esplanade, which they also previously inaugurated, has become an instant hit among local and foreign tourists looking for Instagrammable shots.
The Pasig River Esplanade stretches from Jones Bridge to near the end of the Manila Post Office.
President Marcos, in his remarks at the ceremony, reaffirmed his commitment to help revive the Pasig River despite its challenges.
“Our mission is simple but it is difficult: to bring back the river to its pristine state and make it a vibrant waterway once again for life, for culture, and for mobility,” he said.
The inauguration of PBBM Phase 3 took place at Plaza Mexico, Riverside Drive in Intramuros, where officials of the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development were also in attendance. First Lady Marcos oversees the progress of this project.
