Gov. Miraflores says Aklan is now a 1st class province

KALIBO, Aklan- The Aklan provincial government is now a first-class province, according to Aklan Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores during his Governor’s Report to the People held on December 5 at the Marzon Convention Center here.

In a copy of the 37-page report furnished to the Manila Standard, Miraflores said that the upgrading of the status classification of the province was based on the Republic Act 111964 signed by President Bongbong Marcos which was titled “Automatic Income Classification of Local Government Units Act.

The law was signed on October 26, 2023.

The Governor’s Report to the People was attended by several sectors including business civil society groups, and youth among others.

As this develops, the Department of Finance has released    Department Order No. 074, 2024 which improves the 17 towns’ classification status. The towns of Ibajay and Nabas in the Western District elevated two statuses where Nabas jumps from fourth to second class and Ibajay from third to first class municipalities.

Miraflores said the province also awaits the formal recognition of the Department of Interior and Local Government to the province as the 8th streak seal of good local governance awardee.
