The 16th Bright Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards, an annual writing competition that honors individuals and teams who are responsible for giving emphasis on diverse agricultural stories in the country will hold its award rites on Wednesday, March 8 at the Widus Hotel Clark in Angeles City.

The awards foster a sense of camaraderie among agricultural journalists and media practitioners while emphasizing the value of covering stories about agriculture, and providing hope and inspiration to readers.

This year’s theme is ‘Harvesting Progress’.

“As we reflect on the challenges of recent years, it has also brought us a renewed sense of hope. Together we have discovered new ways of doing things. Now is the time to put these better ideas into action as we move forward. Bright Leaf continues its pledge to help uplift the agriculture industry by bringing their stories to light, as well as honoring the journalists who bring them to the fore,” PMFTC. Inc., the event sponsor, said.

Included in the competition are agriculture stories, photos, TV, and radio programs or segments published or aired from March 1, 2022, to February 28, 2023.

The awards were started by PMFTC Inc. in 2007. The name “Bright Leaf” was derived from the Virginia Tobacco leaf, which turns into a bright yellow color after its curing process.

From its humble beginning, participants this year are expected to reach a hundred showcasing a variety of topics in agricultural journalism.
