The International Data Corporation (IDC) recently announced the winners for its Future Enterprise Award where the local government of Quezon City was awarded with two top recognitions.

The Quezon City government earned the “Best in Future of Digital Innovation Framework” and “Best Customer Experience” awards for its digital transformation efforts.

The IDC specifically lauded the city’s technological implementations to help aspiring entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses.

Beginning in 2019, Quezon City undertook a comprehensive program to make their transactions and processes more organized and efficient. During the height of the pandemic, the city launched its QC Biz Easy Online Unified Business Permit System (OUBPAS), a streamlined system that integrated necessary departments to make applying and renewing business permits easier for entrepreneurs. The local government likewise launched the Automated Inspection Audit System (AIAS), which aids in the inspection and verification of regulatory permits compliance. Consequently, through a simple tablet and a handheld printer, regulators can now check and review new establishments around the city. It is the first system of its kind to be utilized by a Philippine LGU.

“We have always prioritized digital technology as a tool for good governance and improved services,” said Margie Santos, head of the Business Permits and Licensing Department (BPLD) of Quezon City.

“Under the guidance of Mayor Joy Belmonte and City Administrator Mike Alimurung, we are so happy that key aspects of our digital transformation are now bearing fruit and reaping benefits for the city and its residents. Rest assured, we have more programs and innovations in the pipeline,” she added.

Santos likewise emphasized how these digital upgrades were able to help micro and small entrepreneurs withstand economic challenges, or at the very least, make their transitions into other industries less difficult.

“We are truly honored by these recognitions from the IDC. Apart from validating our hard work, it serves to inspire us to strive harder to make things even more convenient for all QCitizens,” Santos said.

The IDC is a global provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and events for the tech industry. The Future Enterprise Awards are given to organizations, private or public, implementing technology to fill the digital gap and accelerate business growth.
