The Taguig City government held its 2nd Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) orientation for a second batch of 520 beneficiaries last Tuesday.

Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano said the city’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) spearheaded the SPES, an annual work appreciation program that encourages the youth to turn their idle time into productive hours so they can generate income for school-related expenses.

PESO personnel conducted its first SPES orientation last April 19, with 500 beneficiaries.

A total of 2000 beneficiaries are expected to participate in the orientation, with two more batches of beneficiaries to come.

The SPES orientation aims to introduce to beneficiaries the jobs covered by the program and the responsibilities that come with being a SPES beneficiary.

The local government started implementing the SPES program in 2011. To be eligible for the program, an applicant should be 15-25 years old.

City officials said with the implementation of SPES, students and out-of-school youth in Taguig are given the opportunity to gain work experience and at the same time earn extra income during vacation.

After finishing their time for SPES and when school season opens again, the out-of-school youths who participated in the program can use their earnings to help finance their enrolment cost.
