Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso on Wednesday signed Ordinance No. 8797 granting financial assistance to job order workers, contract of service, or other similar employment schemes in the city government of Manila.

Under the City Ordinance No. 8797, those eligible are expected to receive financial assistance amounting to P5000 in cash each, as an early Christmas gift. The assistance total P51,150,000.

Moreno also approved the 2022 budget for special education fund amounting to P2,556,546,510.

Moreno approved the budget proposal during last week’s meeting with the Local School Board attended by Division of City Schools (DCS) Superintendent Dr. Magdalena Lim and other officials of DCS.

Included in the budget is the reconstruction of Ramon Magsaysay High School located along Espana St. in Sampaloc District. Under the plan, the school will be transformed into a 10-story building with 232 classrooms.

Ramon Magsaysay High School is the leading secondary school in the City of Manila and has the highest population of students.

“I always wanted the best for our people. It doesn’t have to be bigger but better in terms of facilities. This type of school will be built as if this is a private school. This should be the model of a private education system,” Moreno pointed out.

Apart from the reconstruction of Ramon Magsaysay High School, extension of the load allowance for students and teachers is also included under the P2 billion budget.

Moreno said the load allowance is in line with the city’s goal to assist the education sector amid the blended distant learning set-up under the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreno likewise approved the free annual medical consultation of about 11,000 teachers of the Division of City School of the nation’s capital.

“We are ahead of our time again which is good. Rest assured that we will continue to address the future of the education of our students in the city,” Moreno said.

Meanwhile, the budget for the repair of about 12 schools across the City of Manila has been allotted in the 2022 budget.

“Thank you and we survived and we continue to survive and bring our students across the City of Manila,” Moreno said.
