Workers install the Marikit-Na statue—donned with Filipiniana inspired by the color of the Philippine flag and made of rubber from the soles of shoes and slippers made in the city—at the atrium of SM City Marikina in celebration of the 119th anniversary of Philippine Independence today. As legend has it, Marikit-Na is the lady where the city of Marikina gets its name from. Folk stories depict her as a beautiful lady with long hair who was always seen near the chapel of Jesus de La Peña near the Marikina River.
