Clark International Airport Corp. said Tuesday it expects the aviation sector to improve to global standards with the appointment of a former president of Philippine Airlines as the new Department of Transportation secretary.

CIAC expressed hope that Secretary Jaime Bautista’s expertise and accomplishments at PAL would steer the transport sector, specifically the aviation industry, toward full recovery and modernization to world-class standards.

The Department of Transportation is the agency which exercises policy and operational supervision over CIAC.

CIAC is a government firm tasked to develop the Clark Civil Aviation Complex, home to the privately-run Clark International Airport and the mixed-use business district of Clark Global City and several locators in cargo and aviation-related businesses.

The agency said in a statement it looks forward to working under Bautista’s leadership to develop Clark as a premiere aerotropolis and hub for aviation and international logistics in the Asia-Pacific region.

Bautista replaced Secretary Arthur Tugade who steered DOTR for the past six years with exceptional leadership and unprecedented achievements, it said.

The DOTR, under Tugade’s leadership, completed 250 airport projects, including Clark International Airport’s new Terminal 2, improved the country’s satellite communications system and introduced the night-rating of airports.
