Megawide Construction Corp. expects domestic traffic in the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to be back to the pre-pandemic level by the last quarter of 2022.

Megawide vice chairman Louie Ferrer said during an investors’ forum sponsored by the Philippine Stock Exchange and Bloomberg the company was banking on the holiday season during the last quarter of the year to boost leisure travel in the country

Local traffic in MCIA is gradually recovering with volume now more than 50 percent of the 2019 level.

International traffic in MCIA, meanwhile, will not be back to pre-pandemic level until the last quarter of 2023 due to remaining restrictions on leisure travel in its three key markets—Korea, Japan and China.

Ferrer noted that that International Air Travel Association recently adjusted its global outlook on pre pandemic recovery to 2024 from 2023 because of the Russia-Ukraine war and extended COVID-19 lockdown in China. Jenniffer B. Austria
