Qatar Airways Group said it will hire more staff from the Philippines to support global operations amid the recovery of the travel industry.

“Qatar Airways is targeting to recruit a significant number staff from the Philippines, and we will recruit all candidates who are found suitable for the roles. Most of these roles are for cabin crew, lounge staff and contact center staff,” Qatar Airways chief customer experience officer Rossen Dimitrov said in an email interview.

He said the recruitment drive in Philippines would kick off in Manila from April 18 to 21. Recruitment events are also planned across Cebu, Clark and Davao in the coming weeks.

“We are thrilled to be able to expand our team with this recruitment exercise in the Philippines, as we excel our recovery in the global aviation sector while creating job opportunities for the Filipino market,” Dimitrov said.

He said that the aviation industry has been in recovery mode for months with the easing of travel restrictions.

“APAC [Asia Pacific] has been a little slower with the reopening, but many regions have been opened since end last year and we do see international travel gradually returning to normal. There’s definitely been an increase in ticket bookings in the APAC region and it’s been very encouraging,” Dimitrov said.

He also said the tPhilippines has always been a very key market for Qatar Airways.

“Prior to COVID-19, Qatar Airways has three gateways to the Philippines: Manilla, Clark and Davao. We have since added Cebu in July 2020, while pending Davao resumption. Having multiple gateways is always an indication of our commitment to the market as we’re committed to serving these destinations,” Dimitrov said.

He said there is a large population of over 250,000 Filipinos working in Qatar, accounting for 17 percent of the population.

“This is a significant number, with Qatar being the third largest country for overseas Filipino work force. Thus, the Filipino market is naturally a crucial one for us, and Qatar Airways is committed to serving the country,” Dimitrov said.
