The Department of Transportation said it is on track to build 1,500 kilometers of railways by the end of the Duterte administration.

“When the Duterte administration assumed its role in the government, our rail population was only 77 kilometers. We will not end this administration with 77 kilometers. Our target is to make 1,500 km of railway tracks,” Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said during the signing ceremony between the government of the Philippines and United Kingdom for education and skills development for maritime and rail sector.

“This is a toll order from 77 km. to 1,500 km. We may not be able to achieve 1,500 kilometers, but we are optimistic that we will be achieving 1,200 kilometers or railway tracks,” he said.

Tugade earlier said more than 400 km. of new railways would be partially operational by this year, up from just 76.9 kilometers of operational railways at present.
