NLEX Corp. said Tuesday it will install solar panels in more toll plazas at North Luzon Expressway and Subic Clark-Tarlac Expressway to further lessen its carbon footprint.

The company said the total energy harvested in 2020 reached 171 megawatt-hours, which gained carbon emission savings of 134,232 kilograms, or equivalent to 4,006 trees planted. Records show the Bocaue barrier generated the highest CO2 emission savings with 50,618 kg. or equivalent to 1,511 trees planted.

The Balintawak toll plaza yielded CO2 emission savings of 42,980 kg. or 1,283 trees planted.

The tollway company first harnessed solar power in its Meycauayan southbound toll plaza in 2018, followed by the toll plazas in Balintawak, Bocaue, Mexico, Angeles, San Fernando southbound and Harbor Link (Karuhatan) in 2019 to boost energy efficiency and contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions along the expressway network.
