The Department of Energy remains committed to increasing the contribution of biofuel in the country’s energy mix, an official said during the recently concluded virtual 39th Japan Cooperation Center Petroleum International Symposium.
“As Philippine Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi often highlights, it is our priority in the DOE to craft policies that would help the country achieve energy security, self-sufficiency and independence. Increasing the contribution of biofuels in our energy mix is one such way since it would reduce our dependence on imported fossil-based fuels, enhance the quality of the environment, and create opportunities for countryside socio-economic development,” Assistant Secretary Leonido Pulido III said in a presentation on the implementation of Republic Act No. 9637, or the Biofuels Act of 2006.
The minimum biodiesel blends under the law are set at 10 percent for bioethanol (E10) and two percent for biodiesel (B2).
The country had 12 accredited bioethanol producers with a rated production capacity of 380.5 million liters per year as of the end-2020.
