Power retailer Manila Electric Co. said it expects to complete meter reading and distribution of billing to 2.8 million customers within the month.
Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said the meter reading and billing distribution was ongoing. “Before the month ends we will complete all readings,” Zaldarriaga said.
Zaldarriaga earlier said around 2.8 million meters were not read in May. Meralco also drew flak from consumers because of the high electricity bills for June. He said this was due to the compounded four-month billing and higher residential consumption during the enhanced community quarantine as people stayed at home.
Higher temperatures during the dry months also forced consumers to increase the usage of electric fans, air-conditioners, electronic gadgets, and other home appliances, he said.
Zaldarriaga said these customers did not receive their bills until their actual meter consumption were read. Meralco has nearly seven million customers in its franchise area.
