The Department of Energy said Thursday it awarded 55 offshore wind service contracts with an aggregate capacity of 40,680 megawatts, reflecting strong investor interest in the emerging offshore wind industry.

It said in a statement the awarded contract capacity is “almost twice the dependable generation capacity in the country.” The agency is in the process of amending the policies and guidelines for OSW development.

Among the contracts awarded are Domhain Earth Corp.’s 1, 600-MW offshore wind project in offshore Cagayan and Ilocos Norte and its 3,100-MW Bulalacao offshore wind project in Oriental Mindoro; Earth Sol Power Corp.’s 500-MW offshore wind project in Bagac, Bataan; Giga Ace 7 Inc.’s 1,024-MW offshore wind project in Calatagan and Lian, Batangas; and Vind Energy Corp.’s 495-MW offshore wind project in Cavite.

These also include Wpd Philippines Inc.’s 300-MW offshore wind project in Cavite; CleanTech Global Renewables Inc.’s 1,200-MW Bulalacao Bay offshore wind project in Oriental Mindoro and Antique; Energy Development Corp.’s 700-MW offshore wind project in Negros Occidental and 1,000-MW offshore wind project in Guimaras, among others.
