The Energy Regulatory Commission is tapping foreign experts to assist in the issuance of the rules for advanced metering infrastructure that will pave the way for the full implementation of smart meters.
“Because AMI is advanced in other countries but not in the Philippines. So we decided to get consultants, “ said ERC chairperson Agnes Devanadera.
She said ERC had not finalized the AMI rules yet, but assured the regulator would released them this year.
“It should be this year but we are also dependent on the funder of the consultancy. But we have started and we should see that in place this year,” Devanadera said.
AMI refers to an integrated system that is typically comprised of smart meters and other related devices, communication platforms and/or a combination thereof, and meter data collection and management systems, ERC said. Alena Mae S. Flores
