SMC Global Light and Power Corp. and SunAsia Energy Inc. challenged the offer of Terra Solar Philippines Inc. to supply 850 megawatts of mid-merit power to Manila Electric Co.

Meralco’s third party bids and awards committee received expressions of interest from the two companies. Both challengers are building 2,500 MW of solar and 4,000 megawatt-hours of battery energy storage.

“Those are the only two who have submitted, and we will find out later if anyone will be withdrawing,” Meralco first vice president and head of regulatory management office Jose Ronald Valles said.

SMC Global Light is owned by conglomerate San Miguel Corp., while SunAsia Energy is a pioneer developer of clean, affordable and sustainable solar energy in the country, which last year signed a partnership agreement with Blueleaf Energy, a portfolio company of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group to develop 1,250 megawatts of solar projects in Luzon.

Terra Solar is the joint venture of Solar Philippines Power Project Holdings Inc. of the Leviste Group and Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc. of tycoon Enrique Razon Jr.
