A unit of San Miguel Corp. has expressed interest to purchase liquefied natural gas from Excelerate Energy L.P., a US-based LNG company in The Woodlands, Texas, which  plans to build a facility in the Philippines, a government official said over the weekend.

Energy Undersecretary Leonido Pulido said Excelerate attached the letter of intent of South Premiere Power Corp., the independent power producer administrator of the 1,200-megawatt Ilijan natural gas project in Batangas, in an application for a notice to proceed for its planned LNG facility  in the country.

“It’s a letter of intent from SPPC to Excelerate to purchase LNG if and when the latter is able to finalize their project,” Pulido said.

Pulido said Excelerate’s application was pending with the Department of Energy.

“Their application was put on hold because they were asked to submit further documentation to substantiate their proposal. A part of what was asked from them was to provide an after market. …Maybe we can consider it (South Premiere) as a potential market for them,” he said.
