E-vehicle station rollout delayed

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. has not yet rolled out its electric vehicle charging stations because of the delay in the deployment of e-vehicles by partner QEV Philippines.

“We remain open to the partnership with QEV but our deal with them was they are the ones working out the vehicles. We just identify the stations.  So far we have not been notified to construct,” Pilipinas Shell president Cesar Romero said.

Pilipinas Shell teamed up with QEV Philippines last year to put up the first electric vehicle fast charging infrastructure network in the country. The joint venture agreement called for an initial 100 pilot sites for the EV charging posts.

“It’s quite a challenging undertaking coz first of all availability of vehicles, demand. We’re ready to deploy if there are enough e-vehicles,” Romero said.

Romero said the use of e-vehicles is expected to grow in the coming years.
