Four foreign companies set to open 1,000 BPO jobs in PH

Four foreign companies, including a popular travel brand, are expected to invest in the country and support the growth of the contact center industry in the second semester, an industry executive said Tuesday.

Contact Center Association of the Philippines president Jojo Uligan said three European companies and an American company were expected to deliver new investments in the Philippines.

“From experience, companies coming here tend to easily adjust projections to a higher limit. By this, we expect, easily, another 1,000 to 1,200 seats,” Uligan said in a pre-event briefing for the Data Privacy Asia 2017 forum that would be held on July 20.

This would mean investments of $5 million, based on the industry rule of thumb of $5,000 per seat.

CCAP said despite the slower growth in the first half, the industry was expected to grow faster in the second semester.

“This is a historical fact and we do acknowledge that. But we are also bound for faster growth in the third and fourth quarter, again from a historical perspective. The fourth quarter is actually the peak of growth for any given year,” said Uligan.

He said the group would verify the figures during the first industry survey that would come out by the end of the first semester.

The National Privacy Commission said during the pre-event briefing that the efforts of the government and the private sector to safeguard the industry needed to be upgraded.

“We are in the education and compliance phase. It is imperative for the industry to move forward to level up with other countries and determine how we can protect our own in this age of digitalization. Data privacy now is big and it’s getting bigger,” NPC commissioner Raymund Liboro said.

The commission pushed for the mandatory registry of companies with 250 employees and above by September. Bigger companies have bigger risks on data privacy infringement, according to Liboro.

“We can help in their compliance and assist them in matters that involve data privacy,” he said.
