National Grid Corporation of the Philippines expects a peak demand of nearly 10,000 megawatts in Luzon in the second week of May but assured the public of adequate supply.

This year’s peak demand is 1.48 percent higher than the 2015 actual peak demand of 9,726 MW.

“During the peak of 9,870 MW, gross reserves is 1,000 MW plus. Excluding Malaya plant. Around 1,350 gross reserve,” National Grid division head Fidel Bagsaan Jr. said.

National Grid spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza said supply was expected to go up to over 10,000 MW.

“(Supply is) stable. We should still exercise prudent use of electricity… Use electricity judiciously,” Alabanza urged consumers.
