Government turns digital with PayMaya

The Social Security System tapped PayMaya to allow members to conveniently pay their contributions through the SSS mobile app via any credit, debit and prepaid card as well as e-wallets. The agency also uses PayMaya's platform for disbursement of member benefits and loan proceeds.

The country's top revenue-generating government agencies are now enabled by PayMaya, providing citizens and businesses with a safer and better way to transact using digital payments, both online and face-to-face.

"With PayMaya as enabler, more national government agencies and government-owned corporations are heeding the call of providing ease of doing business and efficient delivery of services by adopting digital payment technologies. As the only end-to-end digital financial services platform enabler, we are committed to making the government's initiatives work for all," said Orlando Vea, founder and chief executive of PayMaya Philippines.

PayMaya has deployed its plug-and-play solutions such as PayMaya Checkout, One by PayMaya and PayMaya QR to the government's top two tax-collecting agencies—the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Bureau of Customs.  The Social Security System and the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG, two of the biggest social security agencies, are also powered by PayMaya.

PayMaya has enabled other top revenue-generating government agencies such as the Land Transportation Office, Department of Foreign Affairs, National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Trade and Industry, Securities and Exchange Commission, Professional Regulation Commission, Philippine Statistics Authority  and Land Registration Authority.

Beneficiaries from the various social assistance programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, SSS, Department of Agriculture, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and SB Corp. can safely and conveniently receive government aid straight to their PayMaya accounts.

Aside from supporting pandemic-related social assistance programs, PayMaya's platforms have touched the rural grassroots by enabling disbursements related to seed distribution, agri loan distribution, and crop sale proceeds.

Meanwhile, the country's key provinces, cities and municipalities utilize PayMaya's payment acceptance and disbursement platforms for services and programs. These include Quezon City, Manila City, Taguig City, Pasig City, Caloocan City, Mandaluyong City, Marikina City, Paranaque City and Valenzuela City in the National Capital Region alone.

Most recently, PayMaya and Antipolo City teamed up to strengthen its Digital City ecosystem by enabling the local government, transport sector, small businesses and citizens with digital payments.

PayMaya's thrust in equipping various government units with digital financial products is in line with the public and private sectors' cooperation to promote digitalization of transactions, accelerate financial inclusion and improve the Ease of Doing Business with the government through inclusive technology.

With PayMaya enabling the government, Filipinos can enjoy a more inclusive way to pay via credit, debit, prepaid card, and PayMaya QR—whether through physical locations or online. Unbanked and underserved Filipinos can also pay for government fees and cash out their financial assistance within their neighborhoods through Smart Padala by PayMaya's widest network of 40,000 agent touchpoints.

"It is important to enable government agencies and LGUs with the ability to accept all kinds of digital payments – whether it's via credit, debit, or prepaid cards, e-Wallets, and even payments from the unbanked through on-ground agents," said Vea.

"PayMaya's universal payment platforms provide government partners with a more streamlined experience that promotes transparency and ease of doing business," he said.

PayMaya is actively working with the DTI, Department of Interior and Local Government, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Anti-Red Tape Authority, the Bureau of Treasury, PSA and SEC in promoting various cashless initiatives in line with Ease of Doing Business and the transparency thrust of the government.

It recently partnered with the Development Bank of the Philippines to enable digital payments for countryside development, primarily through local governments and businesses. It also opened its PayMaya wallet to the 10 million overseas Filipinos, so they can conveniently pay for social security and government fees even while abroad.

In July 2020, PayMaya launched the LGU Embracing and Accelerating Digitalization Program to help local governments do cashless payments and digital disbursements. With the LEAD program, LGUs can also support businesses in their communities to offer cashless payments and their citizens to transact through their digital financial accounts.
