Globe, DITO warn public vs. switching modems, SIM cards

Globe Telecom Inc. and DITO Telecommunity Corp. on Monday warned the public about the illegal re-selling of Globe At Home modems with DITO stickers and SIM cards.

“It has come to our attention that certain individuals and retail establishments are illegally reselling and passing off as DITO Telecommunity modems, several of our Globe At Home WiFi Modems,” Globe said in a statement.

“The modus is done through the unauthorized unlocking of the Globe device, substituting the Globe SIM with a DITO Telecommunity SIM and concealing the Globe At Home trademark with a sticker of DITO,” it said.

All Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi kits have pre-inserted SIMs in the modems ready for activation via the Globe At Home app or FB messenger upon purchase.

Globe said it was prepared to take the necessary legal action against unscrupulous individuals and establishments carrying out deceptive business practices, through the assistance of law enforcement authorities.

Adel Tamano, chief administrative officer of DITO, also warned the public against purchasing DITO-branded modems and WIFI devices with free SIM cards which were being sold in various online channels.

“It has come to our attention that there are so-called DITO-branded modems that are being sold online. Let me take this opportunity to assure the public that the unauthorized use of the DITO branding in any form shall result in the possibility of prosecution for copyright infringement,” Tamano said.

“There are no official DITO modems or pocket WIFI devices that have been launched at this time. DITO cannot and will not guarantee the performance and service should our SIM cards be used in these unauthorized devices in the market today,” he said.

Tamano advised the public to purchase SIM cards from DITO authorized partners and resellers.

“We do understand the desire of the Filipino public to finally experience fast, affordable and quality connectivity through DITO. However, we wish to advise everyone to please purchase DITO sim cards only from our partners, resellers, our DITO stores, and official online partner stores to avoid any issues,” he said.

“Furthermore, we wish to inform everyone that there are unscrupulous individuals selling DITO so-called vanity or special numbers at exorbitant prices. Please be reminded that all DITO sim cards no matter the mobile number are priced the same, and we at DITO do not condone this practice,” said Tamano.

Tamano said DITO would make available true vanity number SIM cards in the future.
