ABS-CBN, PLDT sign deal to air shows on TV5, Cignal

ABS-CBN Corp. on Thursday announced a partnership with PLDT Group that will pave the way for the airing of the former’s entertainment shows in TV5 and Cignal.

“This collaboration between Cignal, TV5, Brightlight Productions and ABS-CBN marks the start of greater cooperation among our various industry players and begins a new era of partnership,” said Robert Galang, president and chief executive of Cignal and TV5.

Among the programs that will be aired over TV5 are musical variety show ‘ASAP Natin ‘To’ and “FPJ: Da King” movies.

“The airing of ASAP and FPJ’s movies on TV5 showcases the desires of TV5 and ABS-CBN to serve our viewers in the best way possible,” Galang said in a statement.

Galang said the top-rated content, combined with Cignal and TV5’s strengths in technology, direct-to-consumer distribution and mobile and broadband reach would usher in a new viewing experience for fans and subscribers alike.

“The future of entertainment media is rapidly converging around a dynamic mix of traditional and digital platforms, with Cignal and TV5 launching new content and synergies that will disrupt conventional broadcast methods,” he said.

“We are committed to continuously explore more initiatives to provide the best of both worlds to all our stakeholders,” Galang said.

ABS-CBN said ‘ASAP Natin ‘To’, the longest running musical variety show and “FPJ: Da King” would be seen on TV5 beginning Jan. 24, 2021 .

Launched in 1995, ‘ASAP Natin ‘To’ brings together the biggest and brightest performers to give viewers the best concert experience topbilled by Martin Nievera, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Gary Valenciano, Sarah Geronimo, Erik Santos, Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.

Aside from “ASAP Natin ‘To,” TV5 will also begin airing “FPJ: Da King,” a movie block showcasing the films of Fernando Poe Jr. Fans of the Filipino cinema legend can watch “FPJ: Da King” every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

ABS-CBN earlier entered a block time agreement with Zoe Broadcasting to air some of its entertainment shows via A2Z Channel 11 after the broadcast unit of the Lopez Group failed to secure a new congressional franchise.

The National Telecommunications Commission issued a cease and desist order against ABS-CBN on May 5 after its 25-year congressional franchise lapsed. This forced ABS-CBN to stop airing programs on Channel 2, the country’s most popular TV station.

ABS-CBN said the closure affected the jobs of thousands of employees from a labor pool of more than 11,000.
