Sector reforms yield P2.49b in savings

Structural reforms in the telecommunications and logistics sector yielded P2.49 billion in savings for both the government and private sector, according to the Anti-Red Tape Authority.

ARTA director-general Jeremiah Belgica said the National Effort for the Harmonization of Efficient Measures of Inter-related Agencies program successfully and significantly improved certain business processes.

The NEHEMIA program is a sectoral-based inter-agency streamlining effort to speed up the socio-economic agenda of the government. The program aims to reduce by at least 52 percent the time, cost and procedures for key economic sectors in 2020.

Belgica said for the telecommunications sector, permits issued by local government units and government agencies were reduced by 38 percent from 13 to 8 permits while documentary requirements were cut by 59 percent from 86 documents to 35.

The time spent to process permits and documents was streamlined by 93 percent and went down to 16 days from 241 days.
