Complainant against Dali fails to present evidence — DTI

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) issued a show cause order to discount grocery store Dali Everyday Grocer on May 29, 2024, following complaints from a consumer group.

The consumer group reportedly filed 13 complaints against Dali, alleging rude staff behavior, unsanitary practices, shoplifting incidents, improper food handling and non-compliance with priority lane regulations for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Officials of the DTI clarified that the investigation does not presume Dali’s guilt, adding that no formal complaints were filed against Dali.

“The consumer group did not file a formal complaint. They just sent us letters as complaints. Missing, however, were the evidence that should substantiate their claims against Dali,” said DTI assistant secretary for consumer protection group Amanda Nograles.

The DTI said while Dali has 353 branches nationwide, it only regularly monitors 82 branches as they carry basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs).

These monitored branches were found compliant with the suggested retail price (SRP) and Price Tag Law during routine checks from January to April 2024, it said.

The department is acting on the complaints and will seek assistance from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for any sanitary concerns. It said it is open to hearing Dali’s side of the story.
