Taiwanese smartphone parts and consumer electronics maker New Kinpo Group has sought the assistance of the Department of Trade and Industry and the Board of Investments to look for a new lot where it can expand its manufacturing operations in Lipa, Batangas.

New Kinpo chief executive officer Simon Shen informed Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez and Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo early this month about the company’s plan to establish a new 24,000-square meter facility and develop a manufacturing complex in First Philippine Industrial Park Inc. in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

The Trade Department said it would help the company look for a new lot for the expansion project and create linkages so the company can successfully market its robotics products in the Philippines.

The expansion will create job opportunities for as much as 18,000 Filipino employees in two to three years.

Shen said the expansion was part of a plan to position the Philippines as the group’s hub in Southeast Asia.
