The government’s outstanding debt reached P7.103 trillion as of end-August 2018, a P60.27-billion or 0.86-percent increase from the previous month’s level, the Bureau of the Treasury said Friday.

Of the total stock, 35.63 percent were obtained externally while 64.37 percent were borrowed domestically.

Domestic debt amounted to P4.572 trillion, P27.61 billion or 0.6 percent lower compared with the end-July 2018 level.

“For the month, the lower domestic debt was due to the net redemption of government securities amounting to P27.77 billion slightly offset by the depreciation of the peso that increased the value of onshore dollar bonds by P0.16 billion,” the Treasury said.

Domestic debt to date has increased by P131.67 billion or 2.96 percent since the beginning of the year.
